Spontaneous Retropharyngeal Haematoma (SRH) is a rare affection witch occur without traumatism. We report a case of 40\'s old year woman who present a SRH and discuss ethiopathogeny, clinic\'s and therapeutic\'s involvement Journal Tunisien d\'ORL et de chirurgie cervico-faciale Vol. 16 2006: pp. 33-3

Learning physics outside the classroom has experienced low consideration in the past, but it has gained popularity in recent times. The current study aimed to explore the effect of using the flipped classroom strategy in teaching physics on academic achievement and motivating secondary school students in Jordan. A total of 84 students from the eleventh grade of secondary education from the Jordanian Ministry of Education participated in the study, divided into two groups, the experimental group (41) and the control group (43). Educational materials and study tools; comprehending scientific flipped classroom strategy designed and charted content, the Physics academic achievement test as well as the Physics motivation scale; were developed and prepared. Study instruments were appropriately statistically pre-checked for validity and reliability. The results revealed that there were statistically significant differences between the experimental group and the control group in favor of the experimental group. The results also showed that there were no statistically significant differences between the mean scores of the experimental group students and the scores of the control group students in the post-application of the motivation scale due to the teaching method. The study recommends further studies on the flipped classroom strategy

"This is an Accepted Manuscript of an article published by Taylor & Francis in Total Quality Management and Business Excellence on 19 Aug 2013, available online: http://wwww.tandfonline.com/10.1080/14783363.2013.824714."The purpose of this paper is to examine the relationship between Total Quality Management (TQM) practices, competitive strategies - cost leadership and differentiation- and firm performance in the Palestinian economy. Within this study total quality management has been conceptualized as soft and hard practices, in congruence with the literature. An empirical analysis based upon an extensive validation process was applied to refine TQM, competitive strategies and financial performance scales. Data were collected through surveying 202 in Palestinian industrial small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Structural Equation Modeling was carried out to test the anticipated relationships. Results derived from this study show that TQM practices have indirect, positive and significant relationship with financial performance through competitive strategies. In addition, a direct, positive and significant relationship between competitive strategies and financial performance was observed. Results derived from this study might help managers to implement TQM practices in order to effectively allocate resources and improve financial performance

ABSTRACT Novel nanosized lamellar germanium phosphate, α-Ge(HPO4)2.1.84 H2O(nGeP), with interlayer spacing (d001 ) = 7.71Ǻ, was prepared. Preparations of poly(vinylalcohol) / lamellar germanium phosphate nanocomposite membranes were carried out by mixing slurry aqueous solution of (nGeP) , of different weight percentages (2.5, 5, 10, and 20 wt %) , with aqueous solution of 10% (PVA) in concentration at 45 o C . The resultant composite membranes are transparent flexible thin films and were characterized by XRD, TGA, FT-IR , scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy(TEM). Size particles of lamellar germanium phosphate calculated from XRD broadening method using the Scherrer , s equation , found to be 44.6 nm . TEM images of PVA/nGeP nanocomposites show that the (nGeP) in the nanometer scale , in the range 38-53 nm , well dispersed in the PVA matrix. The composite materials show to have mechanical and thermal stability properties superior to that of the original polymer, which a result of the enhancement of the thermal properties of PVA/nGeP nanocomposites

Bilateral congenital lobar emphysema: A rare cause for respiratory distress in infancy

    No full text
We report a rare case of bilateral congenital lobar emphysema in a 2-month-old male infant who presented with severe respiratory distress leading to respiratory failure. Plain chest X-ray and later high-resolution CT scan of the chest revealed that both the right middle and the left upper lobes were emphysematous. Surgical excision of the affected lobes has been done successfully in two sequential operations of right middle lobectomy followed by left upper lobectomy which resulted in significant improvement of respiratory status. In this report, the presentation, diagnosis, and surgical management of this rare condition are discussed

Inhibition of peroxidase activity and scavenging of reactive oxygen species by astilbin isolated from Dimorphandra mollis (Fabaceae, Caesalpinioideae)

Astilbin (5,7,3',4'-tetrahydroxy-2,3-dihydroflavonol-3-beta-o-rhamnoside), a flavonoid with a large range of biological activities, was isolated from Dimorphandra molls, a shrub common to the Brazilian Cerrado. The purpose of this study is to verify the effects of astilbin on myeloperoxidase (MPO) and horseradish peroxidase (HRP), and its antioxidant activity against hypochlorous acid (HOCl) and total antioxidant activity (TAC) by the 2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) radical cation (ABTS center dot+). Astilbin inhibited MPO and HRP activities in a concentration-dependent relationship and effectively scavenged HOC. The TAC by ABTS center dot+ of astilbin (IC50 similar to 20 mM) was higher than that of uric acid, which was used as a positive control. These data demonstrate that astilbin is a potent antioxidant and that it inhibits MPO and HRP activities efficiently.Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES)Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (CNPq
